Welcome back to Term Two! We hope you and your family had an enjoyable
and restful Easter holiday. Term Two is a very busy term with only ten weeks of
school and therefore the students of Year Six have already started to work hard
to ensure they complete their work this term.
Term Two Units of Work
This term in Religion the students will be examining Judaism. In groups
they will research a Jewish Holy Day or celebration day and will write a report
on their findings and give a group presentation. Their research will focus on
the areas of symbols, text, beliefs & history, actions and ethics within
their chosen day.
In English the students will be exploring the narrative genre. In History
the students will be learning about immigration in Australia post World War Two,
with a particular focus on Jewish immigration trends. The students will then use
this information to write a historical narrative in character, as a Jewish
individual who has migrated to Australia post World War Two. Their stories are
expected to be interesting, descriptive and historically accurate.
To enhance their understanding of the Jewish tradition and post World
War Two immigration trends, the students will be visiting the ‘Courage to Care’
exhibition in May. The two hour program
is in three parts and includes an exhibition, workshops facilitated by
teachers and holocaust survivors and experiential learning processes
focused on discrimination and tolerance.
The Year Six students will also be completing a Chemical Science unit whereby
they will be investigating chemical changes of various substances. There will be a focus on reversible changes
that can be carried out on certain materials, and how this concept can be
utilised in recycling. Students will create a poster to exhibit their knowledge
in a Scientific manner using diagrams and flow charts.
In Health, the Year Six students will be discussing issues of bullying,
social and emotional growth and peer pressure.
The students will watch the movie the ‘Karate Kid,’ where the main character
experiences bullying. Following this,
students will be required to recreate a scene using role play, depicting how
the event should have been carried out.
Interschool Sport & Dance Fever
This term we continue with interschool sport games and training.
Training is on at school each Thursday morning at 8am sharp. Interschool sport
games will be played on Friday afternoons and students are expected to wear
full sports uniform to school and only change into their jersey at game time.
This term we will be participating in Dance Fever on a Tuesday.
Students are expected to view these lessons as a part of their curriculum and
therefore are expected to give their best efforts. Dance is a part of the curriculum
and therefore students are expected to participate unless they have a legitimate
reason with a note from home.
Reports & Parent Teacher
Interviews
Report cards will be sent home at the end of Term Two. Teachers will
also be conducting interviews near the end of this term (11th and 12th
June). This is a wonderful chance to discuss with teachers your child’s
progress. However, if you have any questions or concerns before then please
contact your child’s teacher to make an appointment to discuss your concerns.
The Year Six teachers would like to thank you for a wonderful start to
the year and a fantastic first term. We look forward to the term ahead and we
wish to thank you for your ongoing support.
Kind Regards,
Sarah Field
